Personal Care Services Provided at Home

  • Personal care, commonly referred to as non-medical home care, helps seniors with activities of daily living (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, grooming, and using the restroom.
  • In the senior’s home, caregivers who are skilled and experienced experts offer personal care services.
  • Personal care services may be rendered on an as-needed basis or on a regular basis, such as daily or weekly.
  • Assistance with meal preparation, medication administration, and light housekeeping are some examples of personal care services.
  • While receiving the assistance they require, seniors can keep their independence and autonomy with in-home care as an alternative to assisted living facilities.

The Distinction Between Personal Care and Companion Care

Companion care offers seniors company and socializing. The activities that caregivers can help with include talking, walking, and playing games.

Personal care is a service that helps older seniors with activities of daily living (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, grooming, and using the restroom.

Home Care Helped an Entire Family By Providing Personal Care

Mr. M was a 78-year-old man who had recently been diagnosed with dementia. As his condition progressed, he found it increasingly difficult to manage his daily activities, such as bathing and dressing. His family was concerned about his safety and well-being, but they were also stretched thin with work and family obligations. They knew they needed help, but they were unsure of where to turn.

That’s when they decided to try personal care at home. A caregiver was assigned to Mr. M, and she came to his home three times a week to assist him with his ADLs. She also helped him with medication management, meal preparation, and light housekeeping.

Mr. M’s family was surprised by how much of a difference having a caregiver made. They could relax knowing that Mr. M was receiving the care and support he needed, and they didn’t have to worry about him being alone. The caregiver also provided them with tips and resources on how to manage Mr. M’s dementia and how to communicate with him effectively.

With the help of personal care, Mr. M was able to stay in his own home, where he felt most comfortable, and his family was able to provide him with the care they wanted to give but couldn’t due to their busy schedule.
