From our family to yours, we are deeply grateful.
Staying Safe & Enjoying the Holidays
The holidays can be a beautiful time of connection, but they can also bring extra stress and safety risks—especially for older adults. Here are a few simple tips to help you or your loved one stay safe and truly enjoy the season.
1. Prevent Falls at Home
- Keep walkways clear of extension cords, gifts, and decorations.
- Make sure hallways and bathrooms are well lit, especially at night.
- Use non-slip rugs or remove loose rugs that can cause trips.
- If gatherings are planned, choose seating that is sturdy and easy to get in and out of.
2. Protect Health & Energy
- Don’t feel pressured to attend every event; it’s okay to say no or stay for a shorter time.
- Stay hydrated and try to keep regular meal and medication schedules.
- If going out in cooler weather, wear layers and comfortable shoes.
- Let family or caregivers know if you’re feeling unusually tired, short of breath, or unwell.
3. Keep Emotions in Mind
- The holidays can bring joy, but also memories, grief, or loneliness.
- Make space to talk about feelings—there is no “right” way to feel.
- Schedule quiet time to rest, pray, reflect, or simply enjoy a favorite show or music.
- Reach out: a phone call, video chat, or short visit can make a big difference.
4. Enjoy the Moments That Matter
- Focus on simple traditions: looking at lights, listening to music, sharing a favorite meal or dessert.
- Involve seniors in ways that are manageable—folding napkins, choosing music, sharing stories or recipes.
- Capture memories with photos or voice recordings of stories and laughter.
From all of us at A Passion for Care, we wish you a holiday season filled with safety, warmth, and moments that truly matter.
With gratitude,
The A Passion for Care Team 💛
