The MIND diet, short for “Mediterranean-DASH Diet Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay,” is a dietary pattern that mixes elements from the DASH diet and the Mediterranean diet. Both diets have been a huge trend in the health community, and both have great results, but sometimes to thrive, a senior will find they need a mix of the two diets. If that sounds like your loved one, they should focus on the MIND diet. It emphasizes consuming specific foods that are believed to be beneficial for brain health, such as leafy greens, berries, nuts, whole grains, fish, and olive oil, while limiting or avoiding foods associated with cognitive decline, such as red meat, butter, cheese, and fried or fast foods.
Diet is important for seniors because it is crucial in maintaining overall health, managing chronic conditions, supporting immune function, and promoting energy levels, ensuring a higher quality of life as they age. This is something that in-home care can help them focus on by preparing meals, reminding them to eat, and reminding their loved ones to make healthy choices. Here are some of the biggest benefits your senior may get by focusing on the MIND diet.
The MIND Diet Will Help Them Maintain a Healthy Weight
Whether your loved one needs to lose weight, gain weight or maintain weight, in-home care can help them customize their diet focusing on the MIND diet. It will all depend on what the doctor says your senior’s weight should be. When they are earth calories, they will be abs absorbents and minerals that will help their bodies thrive. This is a well-rounded distilled with lean proteins, healthy fats, and fresh vegetables. It is easier to maintain a healthy weight when these are the key aspects you or in-home care focuses on.
It Helps Maintain Healthy Skin
It is very true when you hear the term you are what you eat. When a senior’s diet is poor, you can tell! You can tell through their eyes, hair, and skin. If your loved one wants to focus on protecting their skin, it starts from the inside. Since this diet focuses on healthy fats and protein, they may start eating more fish which will help their skin and hair. It will help with fine lines and wrinkles, which can be a major concern for many elderly women. If your mom is becoming more concerned with her skin, encourage her to start paying attention to what goes into her body and recommend the MIND diet.
It’s An Attainable Goal
One of the best things about this diet is that it is more like a lifestyle. It is not restrictive, and your loved one can still eat the things they love within reason. This isn’t a diet, it is a lifestyle, and this mindset may change the way your loved one eats and considers food. When your loved one has changed their mindset, it can be good for what they consume and how often they eat things. You may find they are more full when they are eating better, which can help them lose weight and stay healthy.
